The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recorded a strong trading session on Thursday, with SIC Insurance Company PLC leading the market’s gains after its share price surged by GH¢0.62 to close at GH¢6.99. The impressive performance attracted significant investor interest, with 394,542 shares traded, contributing about GH¢2.76 million to the total market value for the day.
Other financial sector stocks also delivered strong results during the session. Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC rose sharply by GH¢3.36, closing at GH¢79.41, while Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) gained GH¢0.20 to end trading at GH¢2.24. Additional gains were recorded by Republic Bank Ghana PLC, which climbed GH¢0.35 to GH¢3.93, and Enterprise Group PLC, which increased by GH¢0.60 to GH¢11.50.
Some industrial and energy stocks also saw modest increases. Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) added GH¢0.05 to close at GH¢7.31, while Clydestone Ghana PLC and Cocoa Processing Company PLC recorded smaller gains of GH¢0.02 and GH¢0.01 respectively.
Despite the positive momentum, a few stocks declined during the session. Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) dropped GH¢0.06 to GH¢6.28, although it remained the most actively traded stock with over 2.4 million shares exchanged, generating more than GH¢15.4 million in market value. Other decliners included Fan Milk PLC, Ecobank Ghana PLC, and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC.
Overall, the market’s strong performance reflects a continuing rally on the GSE, with the GSE Composite Index recording significant gains since the start of the year, driven largely by the financial sector’s impressive growth.
