President John Dramani Mahama has directed a major expansion of recruitment into Ghana’s security services, increasing the planned intake from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years.
The directive followed a high-level meeting between the President, heads of the security agencies, the Minister for the Interior, and the Acting Minister for Defence to review the ongoing recruitment process.
According to the Presidency, the decision is aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture while also creating additional employment opportunities for young Ghanaians. After receiving a briefing on the current recruitment exercise, President Mahama instructed that the number of men and women recruited across the various security agencies be significantly increased.
The President also emphasized the need for transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment process.
Officials present at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, and heads of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.
The directive was communicated by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
