Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has reaffirmed that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) remains a critical pillar in strengthening Ghana’s justice delivery system, describing it as an effective tool for ensuring accessible, timely, and inclusive justice.
He made the remarks at the launch of the 2026 ADR Week in Sunyani, held under the theme: “Adoption of Innovation and Technology to Enhance Access to Justice Delivery through ADR.” The week-long event, running from March 16 to March 20, aims to deepen public awareness and encourage the use of ADR mechanisms such as mediation within the judicial system.
According to the Chief Justice, the Judicial Service is committed to embracing innovation and technology to enhance the effectiveness of ADR processes. He explained that integrating technology into dispute resolution can help reduce delays, lower litigation costs, and improve public confidence in the justice system.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie emphasized that the success of ADR depends largely on the cooperation of judges, magistrates, and other stakeholders, urging them to actively identify and refer suitable cases for ADR settlement.
Also speaking at the event, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa noted that while the formal court system remains essential, ADR provides a complementary pathway that promotes dialogue, reconciliation, and mutual understanding.
The Chief Justice expressed optimism that the 2026 ADR Week will boost public participation and further strengthen the role of ADR in promoting peaceful and efficient dispute resolution nationwide.
