Ghanaian women entrepreneurs have been encouraged to adopt digital innovation as a key strategy for expanding their businesses and staying competitive in today’s rapidly evolving global economy. The call was made by the Founder and Managing Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Evaluation Development (CEED), Mrs. Gifty Volimkarime, during a graduation ceremony for women who completed a digital literacy and entrepreneurship training programme in Accra.

Speaking under the theme “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Bridging the Digital Divide for Sustainable Business Growth,” Mrs. Volimkarime emphasised that digitalisation has become a necessity rather than an option for modern businesses. She urged women to take advantage of emerging technologies to improve efficiency, build stronger brands, and reach wider markets beyond their local communities.

She encouraged female entrepreneurs to leverage digital marketing tools, e-commerce platforms, and social media to expand their customer base and improve business visibility. According to her, businesses that fail to adapt to technological changes risk being left behind in an increasingly digital economy.

The training programme, organised by CEED in partnership with UK-based Assadaqat Community Finance and supported by the Wales Government, focused on digital skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship development, and online marketing strategies. More than 900 women initially registered, although only 75 completed the programme due to logistical challenges such as incompatible devices and scheduling conflicts.

Mrs. Volimkarime also highlighted the digital gender gap in Ghana, noting that about 60 percent of women own smartphones compared to 72 percent of men, a disparity that limits women’s access to online business opportunities.
