A student of the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, has been honoured by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as the Best Business Student, highlighting the school’s continued record of academic excellence. The recognition forms part of WAEC’s awards scheme aimed at celebrating outstanding performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
At the awards presentation, the student received the cedi equivalent of US$400 from WAEC’s Ghana National Office in recognition of his exceptional performance in the Business programme. Additional prizes included a dictionary from Kingdom Books and Stationery, a cheque for GH¢10,000 from Manjigo Company Limited, and a laptop donated by Jay Kay Enterprises.
In honour of the achievement, WAEC also presented a commemorative plaque to PRESEC-Legon to acknowledge the institution’s role in nurturing the award-winning student and promoting academic excellence.
The award adds to the long list of academic accomplishments associated with PRESEC-Legon, which is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s top secondary schools. Established in 1938 by the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast, the school has built a strong reputation for discipline, academic achievement and consistent success in national and international academic competitions.
The school has also produced several top-performing students in the WASSCE over the years. During its 87th Speech and Prize-Giving Day in November 2025, for example, 47 students from the 2024 WASSCE batch were recognised for obtaining eight A1 grades, demonstrating the institution’s sustained culture of academic excellence.
Education stakeholders say such achievements reinforce the importance of dedication, quality teaching and strong institutional support in shaping Ghana’s future leaders.
