Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Ghana has been officially launched with a mission to empower at least 100 women through training and mentorship in the film and creative arts industry. The initiative seeks to equip women with practical skills and professional networks to enhance their participation and leadership in Ghana’s growing creative sector. (myjoyonline.com)

The programme will provide specialised training in areas such as film production, directing, editing, cinematography, scriptwriting and other technical aspects of filmmaking. Organisers say the goal is to address the gender imbalance in the creative industry by creating more opportunities for women to build sustainable careers in film and television.

Industry professionals and stakeholders who attended the launch emphasised the importance of empowering women in the creative economy, noting that the sector holds significant potential for employment, innovation and cultural expression. They encouraged young women with an interest in film and storytelling to take advantage of the training opportunities offered through the programme.

Organisers further indicated that the initiative will include mentorship, workshops and networking sessions with experienced filmmakers and industry experts. These activities are expected to help participants develop professional confidence and gain exposure to real industry projects.

Stakeholders believe the launch of WIFT Ghana represents an important step toward strengthening female representation in Ghana’s film industry while contributing to the broader growth of the country’s creative economy.
